Project To Be Added To The Growing Las Vegas Medical District

The BioHealth Innovation Challenge is a $10 million competition that seeks innovative proposals to develop and operate a biosciences incubator lab in Las Vegas.

Southern Nevada is rapidly transforming into a hub for life sciences, diagnostics, biotech, and advanced healthcare and the epicenter is in the heart of the city in the Las Vegas Medical District (LVMD). The LVMD is located within one of the city’s two redevelopment areas, and the lab must be housed within a redevelopment area.

Interested parties must register no later than Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, by 3 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time). To learn more, view eligibility requirements and register, visit the BioHealth Innovation Challenge website. Prospective competitors may email questions to questions@biohealthinnovationchallenge.org.

"Healthcare is a key priority for everyone in the city of Las Vegas and bringing a biological health laboratory to the Las Vegas Medical District will further our goal of world-class medicine for all," Mayor Shelley Berkley said. "This is an incredible opportunity, and I cannot wait to see this new project become a reality."

The Las Vegas Medical District is located in the city’s Ward 1 where Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen is the councilman.

"The BioHealth Innovation Challenge represents a bold step forward in positioning Las Vegas as a national leader in biosciences and innovation," Mayor Pro Tem Knudsen said. "By expanding laboratory infrastructure and attracting cutting-edge research and development, the city is creating the conditions for new industries to thrive, new talent to stay and groundbreaking solutions to emerge. The BioHealth Innovation Challenge is about an investment in the health and economic future of Las Vegas."

Sponsored by the city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency and administered by Carrot, a consulting firm, the BioHealth Innovation Challenge invites eligible applicants from around the world to submit game-changing proposals that will establish a biosciences incubator lab in Las Vegas. A winner is scheduled to be announced in the Fall of 2026.

The Las Vegas Medical District is a collaborative effort between the city and the Las Vegas medical and health care community with a goal of furthering the availability of services and enhancing quality of care. By 2030, we estimate that the Las Vegas Medical District will support more than 24,000 jobs and have a $3.6 billion economic impact on our community.
